This simple breathing practice is ancient, our ancestors discovered that the key to calming the mind and body is longer exhalations. Neuroscience later discovered that when your exhale is longer than your inhale, the vagus nerve (running from the neck down through the diaphragm) sends a signal to your brain to turn up your parasympathetic nervous system and turn down your sympathetic nervous system. In other words when your exhalations are longer than your inhalations you move the nervous system into a calm state rather than a state which is ready to react to any perceived threat. Awesome!

Longer exhalations activate the parasympathetic nervous system, calming the mind and body; an ancient practice confirmed by neuroscience.

Although it is very normal for us humans to complain and bemoan about as well as resist that which is, from a metaphysical perspective, none of these serve us. As the sacred laws can only reflect back to us our predominant vibration, the only thing complaining and resisting serves is to magnify and amplify the very thing we are complaining about. And so the way to move beyond and out of any unwanted condition is to turn our attention away from what we don't want to what we do want.

Complaining and resisting only magnify unwanted conditions; focus on what you do want to move beyond them, according to sacred laws.

Why Complaining Never Serves Us

When life doesn't go as planned, it can lead to disappointment, fear, anger, sadness, or a range of emotions. You may find yourself clinging defiantly to the way that things "should" have been. Releasing the "ideal" you've created allows space for both to coexist and ultimately bring acceptance and peace.
