At the Bay Shore Farm

The Newbury family is excited about the upcoming picnic for the Governor in their hometown of Claymont. Each family member has their reason for wanting to attend: Ralph and Elliott idolize the Governor; Frances is eager to see famous author Sara Beaumont; and Cecilia looks forward to reuniting with her childhood friend, Nan Harris, who is visiting from the West. However, their plans are disrupted when Mrs. Newbury receives a letter from Grandmother Newbury, who wants either Frances or Cecilia to visit her on her birthday. Both girls are upset. Frances decides to go and she ends up being very grateful for that decision!
