It’s normal to crave sugar in early sobriety for the simple reason that alcohol contains a lot of sugar. Your body has gotten used to the regular influx of sugar from drinking. There are a lot of (very real) reasons your body is seeking sugar when you remove alcohol. Hunger is a huge trigger to drink and going on a diet or health kick at the same time that you’re quitting drinking is the most common way women self-sabotage their efforts to be alcohol-free.
