This is an excerpt from the story of the author of "Anne of Green Gables," L.M. Montgomery. When young Eric Marshall arrives on Prince Edward Island to serve as a temporary schoolmaster, he stumbles upon a beautiful, mysterious girl named Kilmeny Gordon, as he is out walking one evening. Kilmeny immediately captures Eric's heart. But Kilmeny cannot speak, and Eric is concerned for and bewitched by this shy, sensitive girl.
