This is the story of a young orphan with a talent for painting, who lives with her strict Aunt Rebecca on a farm. Although Jane loves her aunt, she often feels unsure if Rebecca loves her back and suspects she may be a burden. When a city woman offers to take Jane to New York to develop her artistic skills, Jane chooses to leave the farm for the chance of success, with Aunt Rebecca allowing her to go. The story explores themes of duty, family, and the pursuit of dreams, set against the backdrop of early 1900s literature.
