This internal deep dive uses the image of a snorkeler diving underneath the ocean's surface, as a way of navigating our own internal terrain. By learning to allow the surface of the ocean to be as it is, and dive down to where it's quiet and dark, we can navigate challenging internal circumstances (thoughts, emotions, and sensations) by diving to the place below.
