This guided practice is designed to help shift brain activity from our normal beta (thinking, worrying, etc) state into a theta and delta state (deep relaxation) by shifting focus from sensing space internally and externally. This practice can be used to help fall asleep also (no invitation to return to the room at the end) or simply to shift out of a mentally focused state. By focusing on sensing space, we naturally shift from thinking into feeling, simply because you can't think your way into feeling. The shifting of attention is also highly effective at shifting brain states.
