The World of Bees

Our story tonight is an exploration of these popular little insects. Bees are not all social and out of more than 20,000 species, a majority of them are solitary. I tell you about various species that live alone or in communal nests, like carpenter bees, mason bees leafcutter bees, or the sneaky cuckoo bumblebee. And then we explore a honey bees' hive, to discover how work is organized, food is stored, new bees are taken care of, honeycombs are built, and how the colony ensures its survival and the survival of the species by swarming and changing queen.
