Wild Children

In this soft-spoken talk, I tell you about several true stories of feral children, such as Marcos Rodriguez, Marie-Angélique le Blanc, and Victor de l'Aveyron, who survived alone for years in the wilderness. Some of them befriended wild animals, others resisted them. Their returns to society were always complicated and had different outcomes. Even though each of these destinies is unique and there are not enough occurrences to draw general conclusions, they raise many questions about cognitive development, interspecies communication, or what is innate and what is acquired in humans.
